The Deaf Institute with lamp post
Printed here in Manchester on archival fine art giclée paper.
Part of my 'Ive Missed You Too' series: I drew this at A2 and then added lots of textures and details in Photoshop.
Formed in 1850, The Manchester Adult Deaf and Dumb Institute, was set up to
‘continue the religious and secular instruction of the adult deaf and dumb in Manchester; assist in obtaining employment for the deaf and dumb (and to provide an interpreter in cases of dispute or misunderstanding between them and their employers); and to visit the sick, unemployed, and others at their homes, and to grant pecuniary relief in cases found to be really deserving.’
The building itself was completed in 1878 and included a club and reading room, and a chapel, where services in sign language were given for the members. It’s a Grade II building, which means its protected and the sculpture there in the centre is of the Good Shepherd.
It’s been a gig venue since 2008 – just called The Deaf Institute – but announced its closure last year because of the pandemic. Thankfully it’s been rescued by another club group and will re-open again ‘on the other side.’ Phew.
Shipping costs coming up later are:

(Just selling to UK for now until I can understand the new EU rules)
The printed will be ‘digitally signed’ somewhere at the bottom. If you’d rather keep it clean, just say.
