Newspaper: Every Meal with Sheena and Ajay

An 12-page tabloid newspaper (290mm wide x 370mm high), a sort of exhibition catalogue, of all 12 illustrations from the Every Meal with Sheena and Ajay series from 2022. The newspaper is mailed out folded.

This is the introduction:
'Sheena and Ajay have been our friends for years. We witnessed their dating; I photographed their wedding. Their kids are a bit younger than ours, but have all taken similar paths, and we’ve compared notes over the dinner table.

'Every year each of our birthdays is celebrated together, in fact any excuse for a celebration might find us in a local restaurant. As the culinary scene in Manchester has improved over the years, we’ve tried to keep us as enthusiastic, but amateur, food critics.

'Of course it’s not every meal. That would be ridiculous. Last year we went to Turkey for a fortnight together. Sketches of every saksuka breakfast, bazlama and meze lunch and köfta and kalamar dinner would be too repetitive.

'EMWS&A is a bit different for me. As a photographer, and more recently as a sketcher, I’ve told lots of stories: the inner city neighbourhood in turnaround, the undocumented migrant family, my local high street. So this is a break from that, something autobiographical. It’s a story about me, although I’m barely in it, and it’s a story about friendships. It’s also where I own up to my middle-classness... and my penchant for a shish kebab on a Friday night.'
