A book of short stories told through sketches.

That’s how I’ve been describing this book.. A eclectic collection of stories about people and places around Manchester that I find interesting.

Len Grant’s Manchester, Volume 1 starts with a story of how local people repurposed a beautiful old railway building to create a lively café bar and popular cycling hub. For Levenshulme, it’s become a genuine community treasure. Then there’s a piece about all of Manchester’s Grade I listed buildings with a commentary by ace city guide, Emma Fox; and another about the hidden gem that is the Arndale’s indoor food market.

I’ve loved visiting four different choirs to draw, listen and chat to the singers who get so much out of their weekly sessions. And then there are my ink drawings of the Mancunian Way; a bus trip to Burnley and a journey to uncover the roots of my grandparents.

In all, there are eleven stories over 160 pages. I’ll leave you to discover the rest.
